When transacting with banks in the Nordics through Token’s web app, there are certain field requirements and limitations that TPPs should be aware of to ensure smooth transactions. Below are the key fields and format guidelines for creditor address, reference ID, and description, as well as bank-specific limitations.
1. Creditor Address Requirements
Some Nordic banks require the creditor's address as a mandatory field. The address should be populated in the `POST /token-requests` call with the following format:
- City: City name (e.g., "Malmo")
- Country: Country code (e.g., "SE" for Sweden)
Example:
"address": {
"city": "Malmo",
"country": "SE"
}
2. Reference ID Limitations
Certain banks, such as Danske Bank, have a limit of 12 characters for the reference ID. If a TPP is using the web app and does not know which bank will be chosen, it is recommended to use a reference ID with a maximum of 12 characters to avoid issues.
Recommendation:
Ensure that the reference ID does not exceed 12 characters if the client might be using a bank with this limitation.
3. Description Field Limitations
Nordea has a strict limit of 12 characters for the description field. If the TPP sends a string longer than 12 characters, Token does not automatically shorten it. Instead, the incoming data is sent to the bank as it is.
Recommendation:
TPPs should ensure that the description field is limited to 12 characters if using Nordea.
4. Handling Reference ID and Description
If the reference ID exceeds 12 characters and the description field is not populated, Token does not auto-populate the description with the reference ID. Instead, the description field will be left empty unless explicitly provided by the TPP.
Additionally, Token uses only the description field from the `token-request` to populate the `creditor.message` field for Nordea transactions. If the `remittanceReference` is provided, the `creditor.message` will not be populated.
Summary of Required Fields and Limitations for Nordic Transactions
- Creditor Address: Must include City and Country fields.
- Reference ID: Should not exceed 12 characters for certain banks like Danske.
- Description: Should be limited to 12 characters for Nordea.
- Auto-Population: Token does not modify or auto-populate reference IDs or descriptions if they exceed the character limit.
